Transient Suppressor Diodes control sudden or momentary voltage surges in electronic devices. Transient suppressor diodes are Zener diodes that are designed to dissipate excess voltage in a circuit. When voltage exceeds the circuit’s avalanche breakdown point , the transient suppressor diode acts as a clamping device to stop the surge of voltage. These diodes are either unidirectional or bidirectional and can respond to voltage surges much faster than other components such as varistors or gas discharge tubes.
